My first Blog post for my New Website!
How I do My Lightning Photos......First I waited for a storm far in the distance so I would not get fried! Basically I focused just a few hairs shy of infinity, then switched my shutter speed to "bulb" @f/11 and an ISO of 200 - 400 I used my 18-105 lens for these shots. I shot from a tripod and had a remote shutter release cord, turned off my VR, pointed my Nikon towards the storm and I just kept taking 5 - 6 second exposures, one right after the other. I know there are "Lightning Triggers" you can get for a camera but this was a lot cheaper and I think I got some pretty good results. (This was my first real attempt at capturing lightning.) I hope you like them! Just remember if your going to try this make sure the storm is well passed you, or that great shot you get may be your LAST!! And don't forget to turn off your VR when camera is on the tripod.....I forget all the time!!
